How to Reconfirm Your SRD Grant

How to Reconfirm Your SRD Grant

Keep your R370 grant payments flowing without interruption

Last updated: December 2025

⚡ Quick Facts

  • Reconfirm every 3 months to keep your grant active
  • Current SRD grant amount is R370 per month
  • Process takes only 5-10 minutes online
  • NEVER pay anyone to help you reconfirm
  • Missing reconfirmation stops your payments

1. What Is SRD Grant Reconfirmation?

Reconfirmation means updating your information with SASSA. You tell them you still need the grant.

This is NOT a new application. You are already approved for the grant. You just need to confirm your details are correct.

Over 8 million South Africans get the SRD grant each month. SASSA needs to check everyone still qualifies. That’s why reconfirmation exists.

💡 Important: Reconfirmation started in 2024. Before that, checks were only once per year. Now it’s every 3 months.

⚠️ 2. Why You Must Reconfirm Every 3 Months

If you don’t reconfirm, your grant stops. No warning. No extra time. The payments just stop.

SASSA checks these things:

  • Are you still unemployed?
  • Is your income still under R624 per month?
  • Are you still a South African citizen or legal resident?
  • Have your bank details changed?
  • Is your phone number still working?

Your situation can change in 3 months. Maybe you found a job. Maybe you moved. Maybe your phone broke. SASSA needs current information.

Real Example: Thabo missed his June reconfirmation. His July payment never came. He had to reconfirm and wait for the next payment cycle. He lost one month of money.

3. When Must You Reconfirm?

Every 3 Months

You must reconfirm 4 times per year. The reconfirmation periods are:

Quarter When to Reconfirm
Quarter 1 End of March 2025
Quarter 2 End of June 2025
Quarter 3 End of September 2025
Quarter 4 End of December 2025
✅ Best Practice: Set a reminder on your phone. Put it for the last week of March, June, September, and December.

You Have 90 Days

From when you first apply, you have 90 days to reconfirm. After that, changes lock during verification.

But don’t wait! Do it as soon as the reconfirmation period opens. That way, if there’s a problem, you have time to fix it.

✅ 4. What You Need to Reconfirm

Get these things ready before you start:

Personal Information

  • Your 13-digit South African ID number
  • The phone number you used to apply
  • Your full legal name (as on your ID)
  • Your current address

Banking Details (If Changed)

  • Bank account number
  • Bank name (like FNB, Capitec, Standard Bank)
  • Branch code
  • Account holder name

What You DON’T Need

You do NOT need:

  • ❌ Any documents to upload
  • ❌ Proof of unemployment (SASSA checks this)
  • ❌ Bank statements
  • ❌ Affidavits
  • ❌ Money to pay anyone
💡 Pro Tip: Write down your ID number and phone number before you start. Have them ready on paper so you don’t make typing mistakes.

5. How to Reconfirm: Step-by-Step

Follow these steps exactly. The whole process takes 5-10 minutes.

Step 1: Go to the SASSA Website

Open your internet browser. Type this address:

srd.sassa.gov.za

⚠️ Check the address carefully! Scammers make fake websites.

Step 2: Find “Reconfirm Existing Application”

On the homepage, look for the section called “South African ID Holders”.

Under that section, click the button that says: “Reconfirm Existing Application”

Step 3: Enter Your Details

The system will ask for:

  • Your 13-digit ID number
  • Your registered phone number

Type carefully. Check twice before clicking “Send PIN”.

Step 4: Wait for Your OTP

SASSA will send a 6-digit code to your phone. This is called an OTP (One-Time PIN).

The SMS should arrive within 1-2 minutes. If it doesn’t come:

  • Check you entered your phone number correctly
  • Make sure your phone has signal
  • Wait 5 minutes, then try again

Step 5: Enter the OTP Code

Type the 6-digit code from your SMS.

Click “Verify”. This proves you own the phone number.

Step 6: Check Your Information

The system will show your details:

  • Full name
  • ID number
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Bank details

Read everything carefully. Make sure it’s all correct.

Step 7: Update Any Changes

If something changed, update it now:

  • New phone number? Update it
  • Different bank account? Change it
  • Moved house? Update your address

If everything is correct, just leave it as is.

Step 8: Confirm Your Employment Status

The system will ask: “Are you still unemployed?”

Answer honestly. SASSA checks your answer against:

  • Tax records (SARS)
  • UIF records
  • Banking transactions

Step 9: Choose Payment Method

Select how you want to receive your R370:

  • Bank transfer: Money goes to your bank account
  • Cash pickup: Collect at Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, or Post Office

Bank transfer is safer. No queues. No risk of theft.

Step 10: Submit & Wait for Confirmation

Click the “Submit” button.

You’ll get a confirmation message on screen. Take a screenshot!

Within 1-2 weeks, SASSA will send an SMS. This confirms your reconfirmation was successful.

💡 Pro Tip: After you submit, check your status at srd.sassa.gov.za/status. This lets you see if reconfirmation worked.

Criminals are targeting SRD beneficiaries! Read this section carefully.

❌ SCAM 1: Fake “Help” With Reconfirmation

How it works: Someone offers to reconfirm for you. They ask for R50 or R100.

The truth: Reconfirmation is FREE. You can do it yourself in 5 minutes.

Never pay anyone to help you reconfirm!

❌ SCAM 2: Fake SASSA Websites

How it works: Scammers create websites that look like SASSA. The address is slightly wrong.

Examples of fake addresses:

  • sassa-srd.co.za (FAKE)
  • srdsassa.com (FAKE)
  • sassa-gov.za (FAKE)

The truth: Only ONE website is real: srd.sassa.gov.za

Over 150 fake SASSA websites exist. SASSA shut down 70 of them in 2024.

❌ SCAM 3: Phishing SMS Messages

How it works: You get an SMS claiming to be from SASSA. It says “Your grant will stop unless you click this link”.

The truth: SASSA never sends links in SMS. They only send:

  • OTP codes (6 digits)
  • Status updates (“Approved”, “Pending”)
  • Payment dates

Never click links in SMS messages claiming to be from SASSA!

❌ SCAM 4: Fake SASSA Officials

How it works: Someone calls or WhatsApps you. They say “I’m from SASSA. Give me your ID number and banking PIN.”

The truth: SASSA will NEVER ask for:

  • Your banking PIN
  • Your password
  • Your bank card details

Real SASSA staff never ask for your PIN!

❌ SCAM 5: “Double Payment” Lies

How it works: Messages claim “SASSA is paying double this month!” or “Get R740 instead of R370”.
