Can You Convert eBucks Directly to Rand in Your Cheque Account?
This is one of the most common questions FNB customers ask. The short, honest answer is: no, you cannot transfer eBucks directly into your cheque account as cash.
FNB’s official Terms and Conditions are very clear on this. “You may not sell, issue, exchange, barter or redeem eBucks for cash.” Your eBucks can only be used through the official eBucks spend channels.
So even if you have thousands of eBucks sitting in your account, you cannot simply move them to your cheque account as rands. That is by design, not a glitch or a mistake.
But here is the good news: your eBucks are still worth real money. You just need to know how to use them. And once you do, they can save you a lot every month, especially on everyday essentials.
Quick fact: 10 eBucks = R1. So if you have 1,000 eBucks, that is worth R100 in spending power.
How to Redeem eBucks for Cash or Account Credit
You cannot get cash directly, but you can use eBucks to pay your FNB monthly bank fees. This is the closest thing to “cash in your pocket” that eBucks offers, because it saves you from spending your actual money on bank fees.
Here is how to pay your bank fees with eBucks:
- Open the FNB App on your phone.
- Log in with your username and password.
- Go to your account and look for “Pay with eBucks” or the eBucks section.
- Select the option to pay your monthly account fee using eBucks.
- Confirm the payment.
FNB makes this option available directly in the app. For example, if your monthly account fee is R120, you can cover it using 1,200 eBucks instead of using your real money.
You can also use eBucks to pay for purchases you already made with your FNB card. If you used your FNB card to buy something and then regret spending the cash, you can apply eBucks to that purchase within 30 days using the FNB App.

How to Use eBucks at Retailers and Partners Instead
The most practical way to get value from your eBucks is to spend them at partner stores. You can pay fully with eBucks or combine eBucks with cash. This way, your actual money stays in your account.
Here are some of the main places you can spend eBucks:
- Checkers, Shoprite, or Usave – FNB Aspire customers can earn up to R150 back in eBucks every month when shopping here.
- Clicks – Earn up to R150 back in eBucks every month on all Clicks purchases.
- Engen fuel – Use your eBucks card to pay for fuel. FNB Aspire customers can earn up to R150 in eBucks back per month at Engen.
- Pick n Pay – FNB Easy account customers get a monthly grocery voucher of up to R100 plus discounted bread.
- eBucks Shop – Shop for electronics, appliances, fashion, and more. You can pay entirely with eBucks or split the cost between eBucks and cash.
- Takealot, Superbalist, MrD – These are also listed as eBucks earn and spend partners.
To see the current full list of partner stores, go to ebucks.com – How eBucks Works.
Note: As of 1 July 2025, you can no longer earn or spend eBucks at iStore. Apple devices are now available through the eBucks Partner Shop on the FNB App instead.
How to Transfer eBucks to Airtime, Data, or Vouchers
If you need airtime or data, eBucks can cover that too. This is one of the best ways to stretch your eBucks if you are on a tight budget.
Here is how to buy airtime or data with eBucks:
- Open the FNB App.
- Go to “Prepaid” or “Buy Airtime and Data”.
- Choose your network and the bundle you want.
- Select eBucks as your payment method instead of your bank account.
- Confirm the purchase.
You can also use FNB Cellphone Banking if you do not have a smartphone. Dial *120*321# and follow the prompts.
eBucks can also be converted into gift vouchers for some partners, depending on your account type. Check the eBucks App or website for what is available to you.
You can also send eBucks to another FNB customer. The online send limit is eB35,000 (equal to R3,500) per month from each eBucks account. If you need help sending eBucks, you can call the eBucks Contact Centre and they will process the request within two business days.
Why Your eBucks Transfer Might Not Be Working
Sometimes things do not go as planned. Here are the most common reasons why you might struggle to use or transfer your eBucks:
- Your account is not in good standing. If your account is overdrawn, in arrears, or has a legal action against it, you may not be able to use eBucks. All FNB accounts linked to you must be active and in good standing.
- You have not logged into the FNB App this month. FNB requires you to log into the app at least once a month to remain active in the rewards programme.
- You are trying to convert to cash. This is not allowed. If a website or person is offering to convert your eBucks to cash, it is likely a scam. Never share your banking details or OTP with anyone.
- Your cellphone number does not match your FNB inContact number. If your selected number is different from your registered inContact number, some eBucks transactions, especially in the eBucks Shop, will not work.
- You have not qualified for eBucks this month. Not all accounts automatically earn eBucks. You must meet the qualifying criteria for your specific account type each month.
- System downtime. FNB systems occasionally go offline. Try again later or contact eBucks support.

How to Earn More eBucks on a Low Income
You do not need to earn a lot to benefit from eBucks. Here are practical steps that work even on a low income:
- Have an FNB Easy or Aspire account. Both account types qualify for eBucks. FNB Easy customers can start earning rewards by just spending on their FNB card and meeting basic requirements like a monthly deposit. FNB Aspire customers earn when they spend at least R5,000 per month on their qualifying card and meet at least two additional behaviours.
- Log into the FNB App every month. This is a basic requirement to stay active in the programme. Do not skip it.
- Use your virtual card when shopping. Paying with your FNB virtual card in-store or online can boost your rewards. From July 2025, you earn 500 points when 80% of your spend is through the virtual card.
- Get an FNB Connect SIM. Using FNB Connect (FNB’s own mobile network) earns you extra eBucks each month. You can earn 500MB data, 30 voice minutes, and 30 SMSs just for spending R100 on FNB Connect.
- Shop at eBucks partners for your everyday grocery spend. Instead of going to any shop, shift your grocery budget to Checkers, Clicks, or Pick n Pay, which are all eBucks partners. You are spending money anyway, so you might as well earn rewards on it.
- Save your eBucks. Your eBucks never expire. You can save them up for months or even years and then use them when you really need the relief on a big expense.
- Track your rewards. Use the “Track my rewards” tab on the FNB App every month to see where you are and what you need to do to qualify. From 2025, you even earn 250 points just for engaging with this tab.
- Check the 15th of every month. From October 2025, FNB allocates eBucks on the 15th of every month. Mark this date. It is also when special PayDay deals go live on the app.
The bottom line: even if you cannot transfer eBucks to your cheque account as cash, using them smartly on bank fees, groceries, airtime, and fuel is just as good, because it keeps more of your actual rands in your pocket where they belong.
