In short: The Capitec app is free on Google Play and the App Store. You need a Capitec account (or you can open one in-app with your ID and a selfie). You sign in with a secret Remote PIN. Capitec says there are zero data charges on most major SA networks. Keep your Remote PIN private — you can reset it in the app if needed. Not financial advice. Confirm features on Capitec’s own app page before you rely on them.

Download the Capitec app
- On Android: open Google Play and search Capitec Bank (developer: Capitec Bank Limited).
- On iPhone: open the App Store and search Capitec Bank.
- Install the app, then open it.
- If you already bank with Capitec, follow the prompts to register this phone and set your Remote PIN.
- If you are new, Capitec’s listing says you can open an account with a selfie and your ID.
Always download from the official store listing — not a random APK link.
Log in (Remote PIN)
Capitec uses a Remote PIN (not your card PIN) to open the app. Their listing says:
- Keep your Remote PIN secret.
- You can reset it on the app.
- Biometric login, encrypted data and fraud alerts are listed as security features.
If you are locked out and cannot reset in-app, use Capitec client care or a branch — do not share your PIN with anyone who messages you.
What you can do in the app
From Capitec’s official app description (check the live listing for changes):
- Transact: pay bills (e.g. DStv, municipal), buy prepaid electricity/water/airtime, manage card limits and tap to pay, manage debit orders, stop a lost or stolen card.
- Send Cash: send cash for collection at retailers or Capitec ATMs (Capitec’s wording: collect for free at retailers or Capitec ATMs).
- Pay Me / Scan to Pay: accept payments via your QR code; scan major QR codes such as SnapScan and Zapper.
- Capitec Pay: shop online without typing card details (per their listing).
- Save: open and manage savings plans; EasyEquities for shares (brokerage discount as stated by Capitec).
- Insure / Credit / Connect: estimates and applications for products Capitec lists in-app — confirm current offers inside the app.
Tap to pay on or off
Capitec’s listing says you can manage contactless (tap to pay) from the app. Separate Capitec help material also notes that after switching tap to pay on the app, you may need a chip-and-PIN transaction at a machine or ATM before the change fully applies. Confirm the current steps in your app or with Capitec if it does not stick.
Common problems
- Forgot Remote PIN: use Forgot PIN / reset in the app if offered; otherwise Capitec support or a branch.
- “Update the app” message: update from Google Play or the App Store, then try again.
- Scam messages: Capitec will not ask you to send your Remote PIN, OTP, or card PIN by SMS or WhatsApp.
