What Xtra Savings is
Xtra Savings is a retail rewards programme, not a bank account or credit facility. Discounts are applied when you present a registered card or linked digital profile at participating Checkers formats. It is separate from Money Market send/collect products at the same till.
Who can join
Programme materials treat membership as for adults with a valid South African ID or passport number and a cellphone number. Under-18s are not the target signup group. You still need to meet legal age rules for alcohol or tobacco purchases even if someone else’s card is present.
How to get and register a card
- Pick up a free Xtra Savings card at a Checkers till or Money Market counter, or follow Checkers’ current digital / Sixty60 signup path.
- Register with the card number. Common published channels include WhatsApp on 087 240 5385, USSD in the form *134*885*[card number]#, the Checkers website or app, and the Xtra Savings call centre 0800 33 33 85.
- Complete name, ID or passport, cellphone and address prompts as shown.
Keep one active card linked to your ID or passport. Lost cards can be blocked and replaced via the call centre or Money Market, per Shoprite Group card terms themes.
What you get at the till
- Instant savings on products Checkers marks for Xtra Savings members that month.
- Personalised offers if you have opted into communications.
- Savings shown on the till slip when the card is swiped or scanned before payment.
Deals rotate. Do not treat a past percentage or “average daily savings” marketing line as a promise for your next shop.
Xtra Savings Plus
Plus is a separate subscription aimed at Sixty60 users. Shoprite Holdings has described Plus around a monthly fee (commonly published as R99) with unlimited Sixty60 grocery deliveries subject to a minimum basket and other rules, plus an optional in-store percentage discount capped per month. Checkers help notes that the in-store percentage benefit must be activated in the Sixty60 app and does not apply at Money Market, Uniq or Petshop Science. Confirm the live fee, delivery rules and exclusions in the Sixty60 app and Plus terms before you subscribe. Cancel before renewal if you no longer want the charge.
Where it works
Use the card at participating Checkers, Checkers Hyper and Checkers LiquorShop stores and on Sixty60 when linked. Shoprite-branded stores run a related Xtra Savings programme with its own rules. Always swipe before you pay and check the slip.
Practical tips
- Link the card in Sixty60 (Profile → Link my Xtra Savings) if you shop online.
- Update your cellphone number so OTPs and offer messages still reach you.
- For privacy, use Checkers’ published channels to change communication preferences or ask about your data.
