In short: Capitec does not publish one fixed “interest per month” figure for all balances. Rates change, and products differ (main account, Access Anytime-style savings, notice deposits, fixed-term savings). Read the live rate on Capitec’s save-and-invest product pages and in the app before you move money. This page is not a rate table and is not financial advice. Savings and investments can lose real value to inflation and fees; past or marketing rates are not future returns.

Why “per month” search results mislead
Banks in South Africa usually quote annual rates for deposits. A headline yearly percentage is not the same as a promised monthly percentage of your balance. Interest may be calculated daily and credited monthly, or follow another schedule the product screen describes. Always open the Capitec product card for the account you actually hold.
Product families to check on Capitec
- Transactional / main account: everyday balance interest, if any, is shown on Capitec’s live account terms.
- Flexible or Access Anytime savings: easier access savings pots.
- Notice deposits: you give notice before withdrawal (Capitec has described 7- and 32-day notice options in results commentary).
- Fixed-term savings: money locked for a stated term; early access rules sit in the product terms.
Capitec’s interim results for the six months ended 31 August 2025 described a savings structure with the main account interest fixed at 2%, Access Anytime rates scaling up to 6%, notice accounts up to 7.35%, and fixed-term savings as much as 8.4%. Those figures are Capitec’s own reporting-period description, not a live quote for today. Confirm the rate on the app or product page at the moment you save.
How to read the rate on screen
- Open the exact product in the Capitec app or on capitecbank.co.za/personal/save-and-invest/.
- Note whether Capitec shows a single rate or a tier that depends on balance or term.
- Check whether the quote is labelled nominal, effective, or another bank-specific label. If both nominal and effective appear, the effective figure usually reflects compounding; use Capitec’s labels, not a third-party calculator, for decisions.
- Check when interest is credited and whether fees or minimums apply.
Tax and deposit protection (high level)
Interest from a South African source may be taxable above SARS’s annual interest exemption for natural persons. Read the current exemption on SARS’s Interest and Dividends page. Qualifying deposits may fall under South Africa’s deposit insurance framework; check SARB / CODI materials and Capitec’s disclosures for coverage limits that apply to your account type.
Disclaimer
This is general information only. It is not financial advice, not a personal recommendation, and not a promise of any monthly or annual return. Rates, tiers and product names change. Compare live Capitec screens and, if needed, speak to a licensed adviser.
Compare only like with like
A flexible savings rate is not comparable to a long fixed term without reading access rules. Notice periods, early-break costs and balance tiers change the real outcome. If Capitec shows different rates for different pots, move money only after you accept those terms on screen.
