In short: Capitec’s July 2026 Funeral Cover Plan agreement does not describe a living cash-back benefit. A death claim can pay the cover amount if the policy is active. The agreement is underwritten by Capitec Life Limited. A cooling-off cancellation within 31 days can refund premiums if no benefit has been paid or claimed and no claim event has occurred. That is not cash back.
This South African page answers the cash-back question for Capitec Funeral Cover. It is not a comparison of other insurers and not a claim form.
Who issues the cover
The July 2026 agreement says the Funeral Cover Plan is underwritten by Capitec Life Limited, a licensed life insurer (I078) and authorised financial services provider, FSP 54090. Capitec Bank Limited is named as an authorised financial services provider, FSP 46669, and as the non-mandated intermediary and binder holder. Do not treat the bank as the underwriter.
The policy pays a cover amount when a listed life assured dies while the policy is active, subject to waiting periods, exclusions and the claim process in the agreement.
The document sets maximum cover by category. For the policyholder aged 18 to 64, the table shows up to R100 000 ordinary cover and up to R200 000 for death due to an accident. Child, parent and extended-family maxima are lower and are also limited by law for children. The agreement does not use the words cash back or cashback.
The 31-day cooling-off refund is not cash back
Clause 25.1 says you may cancel within 31 days from the signature date, or from the date you asked to change benefits, and receive back the premiums you paid (or the extra premium on a later change). That refund applies only if no benefit has been paid or claimed and no claim event has occurred.
Clause 25.2 says you may still cancel after those 31 days, but you are not entitled to a refund of premiums. Cancelling later is not a cash-back claim.
Clause 16.6 is a separate refund. If Capitec Life finds that a cover limit has been exceeded, the cover that started last is cancelled and those premiums are refunded without interest. That is also not a living cash-back benefit.
Other money-related benefits in the agreement
- Death claim: a cover payout if the claim is accepted. This is insurance, not a refund of premiums while everyone covered is alive.
- Voluntary policy pause: after a 24-month waiting period, you may keep the policy active for up to 6 months without paying premiums. Death cover and other benefits stop while premiums are not paid, except Funeral Support. This is not a cash-back payment.
- Premium waivers: the agreement also lists death and newborn premium-waiver benefits, with their own waiting periods. Those waive future premiums. They do not pay unused premiums back as cash back.
How the agreement says to claim or cancel
The July 2026 agreement says you may submit a claim at a Capitec branch, and it lists WhatsApp 067 418 9565. The document header also gives the 24-hour client care centre as 0860 10 20 43 and clientcare@capitecbank.co.za. Use the current Capitec channel shown on your policy documents if those details change.
Cancellation after you decide to stop the policy must be sent through the communication channels in the agreement. Keep the policy schedule. Do not send your ID or banking details to someone who messages you offering to “unlock cash back” on a Capitec funeral policy.
What this page does not do
- It does not rank other funeral brands.
- It does not publish a current monthly premium. That figure is not in the July 2026 agreement table used here.
- It does not promise how quickly a death claim will pay.
Frequently asked questions
Does Capitec Funeral Cover pay cash back while I am alive?
The July 2026 agreement does not describe that benefit. It describes death cover, specified waivers, a 31-day cooling-off premium refund, and a separate refund if a cover limit is exceeded.
Can I get my premiums back if I cancel?
Within 31 days of signature or of a requested benefit change, yes, if no benefit has been paid or claimed and no claim event has occurred. After that, the agreement says you may cancel but you are not entitled to a premium refund.
Is a death payout the same as cash back?
No. A death payout is the cover amount if the claim is accepted. Cash back usually means money returned while the people covered are still alive.
How do I claim?
The agreement says you may claim at a Capitec branch or via the listed WhatsApp number 067 418 9565. The header also lists 0860 10 20 43.
Who underwrites this policy?
The agreement says Capitec Life Limited underwrites the plan (FSP 54090, licensed life insurer I078). Capitec Bank Limited is the intermediary (FSP 46669).
