Unredeemed Capitec Cash Send: Get It Back (2026)

In short: Capitec Send Cash that nobody has collected yet is still sitting on the reference number and 4-digit secret code you created. The practical way to get the money back is to collect it yourself at a Capitec ATM or a listed retailer (same as any recipient). Capitec’s Help Centre FAQ says if the cash is not collected, the amount is paid back into your account after 30 days; if you don’t want to wait, collect it yourself. Once someone has already collected it, you cannot reverse it. Confirm on Capitec. Not financial advice.

1. Collect it yourself (fastest if you still have the codes)

Capitec’s Send Cash terms: anyone who presents the reference number, the secret code, and appropriate ID where required can be paid — including you, the sender.

  • Capitec ATM: Cardless Services → Collect Cash → enter the 10-digit reference and 4-digit secret code → take the cash.
  • Retail till: Tell the teller you have a cash transfer from a Capitec client; show SA ID if asked; give the reference and secret code.

Capitec lists collection at places such as Ackermans, PEP, PEP HOME, PEP CELL, Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, Usave, Shoprite, and Capitec ATMs (confirm the live list on Capitec — partners change).

2. Wait for Capitec’s uncollected return (FAQ)

Capitec’s Help Centre FAQ wording (Send cash — what happens if you send the wrong amount / cash not collected): If the cash is not collected, the amount will be paid back into your account after 30 days. If you don’t want to wait, you can collect the cash at the listed retailers or a Capitec ATM.

Menus and policies can change — open the FAQ on Capitec and confirm before you rely on the 30-day clock. The Send Cash fee you already paid is set when you send; do not assume sending fees come back unless Capitec says so for your case.

3. Put a hold on payout (terms)

If you need Capitec to try to stop payout to anyone except you, their Send Cash terms say the sender may contact the Service Desk, give the correct ID number and reference number, and request the instruction be placed on hold. Service Desk number in those terms: 0860 10 20 43 (also published as Capitec Client Care). Capitec will endeavour to prevent payout to anyone other than the sender, unless the law requires otherwise. This is not the same as an instant in-app “cancel” button — and this page does not quote an early-reversal fee (ignore old R160-style claims unless you see that fee on Capitec’s own fee sheet for Send Cash).

4. Already collected?

If the cash has been paid out, Capitec’s terms treat presentation of the codes as authorised collection. There is no Send Cash “undo” after payout. Dispute or fraud cases go through Capitec Client Care — not a blog form.

5. Other banks’ “CashSend”

Absa CashSend, FNB eWallet and Standard Bank Instant Money are different products. General overview: Unredeemed CashSend — check the bank first.
